Forvm 4 Dead
Ok, so this is going to me my first official diary posting here. I would like to dedicate it to Catchy, and his love of gaming diaries.
So, fellas, anyone play any Left 4 Dead? This is the latest in the first person shooter genre from Valve, makers of Half Life and Team Fortress. The game consists of 4 'Movies', with 5 maps in each, where the goal is to survive massive hordes of zombies, the occasional 'special' infected, and your teamates lack of aiming abilities. Basically this game is full of win. So, if any of you play, please post in here and we will swap steam ID's. If not, I hope you all can enjoy the mental image of Catchy trembling with anger as he reads this.

. . .the annoying freezing, I'm still having fun playing Fallout 3: I'm at level 10 now and still haven't progressed very far on the main quest--just because it's so cool wandering around exploring and doing side quests. I just got ambushed by a team of three mercenaries hired by someone annoyed by my goody-goody ways--but they were dumb enough to ambush me from the bottom of a stairwell. Before they could get clear, I tossed a couple of grenades down there, whipped out my combat shotgun and blasted away, and extracted some very nice equipment from the resulting goo while muttering, "How goody goody do you think I am *now*, losers?"
Good times. ]:-)

)The AI leaves a little to be desired, though.
I was playing last night (I think level 3 or 4 on this character) and got caught in an open area with two super mutant brutes firing at me across the river. They wouldn't leave me alone, and wouldn't go in the water. So I ducked behind a cement wall, and killed them with the .22. Took about 50 shots. But they basically stood their ground, while I ducked in and out and took pop shots at them until they were both dead.
Pretty good game. The fire ants are a pain, though.

| parent ). . .the Entomologist perk, which gives a 50% damage bonus against insects and other bugs (Radscorpions are tougher in Fallout 3 than they were in the earlier games in the series, so the perk won't be wasted later on). That and good Small Arms skill to facilitate head shots made taking the ants out a lot easier.
The sniper rifle is good for taking out those Super Mutants at long range with one headshot, and for softening up the SM Brutes before they come after you. If it's in decent repair, one round to the head will cripple a Brute's head and make them far more vulnerable to later hits there (meaning you can use other guns at closer range afterwards and save that precious .308 ammo). Of course, if you're in a building and stumble into one while rounding a corner, three combat shotgun blasts to the head in VATS mode works real nice too. ]:-)

| parent )I think I just found a sniper rifle, and it's in terrible condition. So I didn't bother with it. I'm currently trying to max out small guns, repair and speech. Sneak and science might be a fun combo to try in the future.

By the way, VATS is awesome. I suck at 1st and 3rd person shooters.

| parent ). . .you right click the mouse and hold it down to bring up the scope view, then line up the shot with the crosshairs and left-click to squeeze off a round. The scope crosshairs are very accurate when the rifle is in good repair, so hitting a stationary target in the head is pretty easy (on standard difficulty) if you have a decent Small Arms skill level. If it is a very long shot, you'll do better with that than with VATS if you're trying for a one shot kill, at least at lower levels before getting all of those nifty mid-level perks that make VATS mode more deadly.

)I built my own computer system & we've been through some rough times together. But that crazy mutant expansion pack is the first software I've tried to run that actually *scares* me. I mean, how the hell is this barnacly, antediluvian 3D engine pushing my CPU up to 50°? And crashing my graphics card every 10 minutes?

)...that is important.
Gaming, porn or just cruising the Internet, really it is all the same....a way and means of wasting time.
I'd take a look myself at this game if I knew how...
On a more serious subject, a Blogger killed himself live on camera last night....something I predicted just a short while ago when I personally went nuts over a "Cutter," cutting their flesh in a live broadcast and wrote thus:
**********
I'm Very Unhappy with you, OP....for being a Cutter.
Stop this nonsense....NOW.
Find a better way to feel who you are, and if you aren't, then work on it.
You're just a coward in life, in my opinion.
Truthfully, I'm ashamed of you.
Now go out and make yourself a better person, more interesting, more happy, more alive.
And put the Fu%^&ing razor blades down.
Nao!
***********
I'd go find the news article about the suicide of this 19 year old kid last night....but screw it, you're just going to have to take my word for it or find it yourself.
The only redeeming grace is that he did it with pills.
The internet is sooooo full of possibilities....and even creates them itself...they would not exist, I often suspect, except for the fact that the means of showing off, (nudies of every possible female ever born, I often think), to broadcasting, (think Jackass on steroids), and you get...
Live Suicides.
Hummmmmm...wtf....the story extremely distressed me this morning.

)That's what God invented kids for. I'm a watcher, not a do-er. But I'm going to get this one just to look at, based on your description. That way you'll have someone to whale the tar out of anytime we're both online. Valve has the reputation for making games with some of the best graphics around.
(Regarding console games, I thought Call of Duty 4 and 5 had really great background graphics and realistic move ment of the human body, something that's apparently very hard to bring off. Gears of War was not in the same league - very stilted and artificial.)
I love the lush backgrounds in some of these games. I bought Crysis just to see how fast it would run on my new super-duper PC, and also really likes the backgrounds in Far Cry.
