an interesting synergy Obama is opposing a plan he vote for and McCain voted against. imagine that.

The quick summary:

"Barack Obama is opposed to offshore drilling and is also opposed to admitting that he voted for the same corporate giveaways for Big Oil that he's campaigning against today."

we have a choice. we can pay american(s) (oil companies) to extract U.S.oil (as well as pay material taxes to the U.S. gov't) or we can pay big bucks to people who hate us in the middle east.

A bumper sticker similar to:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad/Obama 08

is right on target.

"Making sure your tires are properly inflated, simple thing, but we could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling, if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could actually save just as much." Ob

I'd keep that bumper sticker off my car (#108233)

If I stuck it to my bumper, my neighbors might very well egg my vehicle. Plus, I don't think it's accurate. But it would be accurate to say that when it came time to vote for the Dick Cheney Energy Playbook, Obama voted "aye" and McCain voted "nay".

we could drill in everyone's backyard and we wouldn't change the domestic/foreign ratio of oil use by more than a percent or two. Face it, the US has already used the vast majority of the easy to extract domestic oil, as long as we use oil anywhere near current usage levels we'll need to import the majority of it from foreign sources.

The GAO estimates that Iraq will earn $67 billion to $79 billion in oil sales this year, twice the average annual amount of revenue that it generated from oil sales from 2005 through 2007. This windfall comes despite the fact that Iraq is still struggling to approach pre-invasion oil-production levels.

Record high oil prices mean that Iraq's government could post a budget surplus of more than $50 billion by year's end. From 2005 to 2007, oil exports provided 94 percent of the Iraqi government's revenues.

However, investment spending by the Iraqi ministries that are responsible for oil, water and electricity declined sharply from 2005 to 2007.... Oil Ministry spending fell by an annual rate of 92 percent, Electricity Ministry spending by 93 percent and Water Ministry spending by 13 percent.

While Iraq has amassed budget surpluses, the U.S. Congress has appropriated roughly $48 billion since 2003 for efforts to stabilize and reconstruct the invaded nation. As of this June, the GAO said, about $42 billion of that money had been spent.

Don't you think this sorry state of affairs is at least as relevant to the discussion about high energy prices in the US as the increased drilling placebo?
