The Slandering of McCain by Waffle's Operatives, the game goes on

to some extent his [McCain's] national security experience in that regard is sadly limited and I think it is reflected in some of the ways that he thinks about how U.S. forces might be committed to conflicts around the world."

The devaluation of McCain's service to his country continues...more to follow.

What's the sell-by date on these conservative memes?

Regardless of whether Obama has been reversing himself in prep for the general, 'waffle' is some moldy oldy shite.

to hear you take umbrage when Clark says something that even Waffle Waffle McWaffle has said himself. That's devaluing McWaffle's service, you say!

Timmy, do you not remember that around these parts four years ago you were leading the charge devaluing a candidate's service, not with harmless truths, but with allegations that have been proven to be lies?

Suggesting or believing that Senator McCain doesn't know beans about foreign policy, and, having surrounded himself with raving maniacs (the dregs of the Neo Con crowd), he has only proven that naivete is dangerous when mixed with bellicosity...

Suggesting that? In no way devalues his service to his country.

John Cole nails it. According to the Timmy metric, Randall Duke Cunningham is also an expert on foreign affairs. You know. Becuz of his service.

So is John Murtha (#100718)
by tomsyl

who narrowly missed being Senate Majority Leader, and now heads the House Committee on Military Appropriations, and whose wartime valor was a big part of his campaign against Diana Irey in '06.

We can keep this up all day, but I picked Murtha bcz he was a co-sponsor of the anti-flag burning constitutional amendment that passed the House but failed in the Senate. His Repub co-sponsor was (drum roll) Randy Cunningham.

I Couldn't Agree More, tomysl (#100965)
by Harley

About Murtha, about anyone else. The notion that this is somehow relevant other than as part of a basic biography is nuts. And that, btw, was what Clark was addressing. My guess is that the McSame campaign is well aware that this is basically all they've got. The last thing they can afford is for anyone to question, in the slightest way, the good Senator's bona fides as a hero and the way in which the latter make him presidential material.

Well, as I said elsewhere, this is going to get old very soon (#100997)
by tomsyl

because a majority of voters won't have any first-hand knowledge about Vietnam. And other wars won't resonate the same way because no matter what position you took then or take now, no other war arouses the inner conflicts that almost everyone who lived through that era has about Vietnam. I think that to a degree honoring heroes from that war helps us forget that it was not an honorable or heroic war by any objective measure.

As you've reminded us once or twice, McCain's pretty old. If we assume the next president will hold office for two terms, there will be few, if any, politicians around going for the brass ring that served in Vietnam. Personally, I think the meme dies after this election cycle. I don't feel it will be replaced by heroics w/r/t the Iraq war, but maybe I'm wrong on that.

You of course are wrong in saying that this is all that McCain brings to the table, but we'll let that one play out over the next four months.

(BTW, I said elsewhere that I agreed with the quoted statement by Clark, considered on its own. You probably thought that was a typo.)

it was called "Fellating the president, even if he's JFK, is stupid and will lead to atrocities like the DEA or the Bush administration."
