La Valse

(1) Some of the worst movies ever made were the various & several travesties of Edgar Allan Poe stories directed by Roger Corman and starring Vincent Price, way back in the 1960's.

The best of these worst, by all accounts, was The Masque of the Red Death (1964) - a camp classic, if ever there was one.

Absolutely Fabulous!

At last, there's a candidate whose breasts I can believe in!

Paris Hilton or die.

The B[l]ook of Hope: a foretaste

Every time I get started writing my (authorized!) review of K.'s work-in-progress, *The B[l]ook of Hope*, I just end up rereading, and rereading, and rereading, while laughing, and tippling, and laughing, and tippling, until I'm thoroughly exhausted by laughter and drink.

"I Have Become a Symbol"

Hilarious: President Obama Continues Hectic Victory Tour.

No, it's not The Onion. It's Dana Milbank, writing in the Washington Post:

"Barack Obama has long been his party's presumptive nominee. Now he's becoming its presumptuous nominee.

"It's just a cracker."

Well. So P. Z. Meyers finally got hold of a consecrated host, nailed it to some torn out pages from the Qur'an, threw some coffee grounds and a banana peel on top, and announced that his long-awaited "great desecration" is "finished."

Or so he claims. Personally, I think the pic looks distinctly photo-shopped.

Tacitus on Obama in Berlin

Over at his personal website, our blog-father, Tacitus, aka Josh Trevino, has published what is, I think, a very insightful piece on Barack Obama's speech in Berlin.

The whole piece makes for great reading, but this stands out:

They Get You Coming...

And they get you going.

Therefore they get you.

Case in point:

In 2007, the EEOC sued the Salvation Army when it tried to enforce its "English-only" rule - i.e., its rule requiring employees to speak only English while on the job - in its Thrift Store in Framingham, Massachussetts.

So why not, you may ask? Isn't that just being nasty? If you have employees who are more comfortable communicating with one another in Spanish, then why not let them? Who does it hurt?

Chorus Mysticus

I have committed another YouTube Video:

A Moral Problem

After a bit of begging, a certain poster on this forvm whose handle begins with the letter K sent me the first 49 chapters of his work-in-progress, entitled *The Book of Hope*.

I approached it, at first, with a certain amount of trepidation, because it was not what I was expecting - i.e., a historical novel (I have a special fondness for historical novels). Well, since I had asked, I felt obligated to read at least a little bit before saying, politely, "thanks, but no thanks."
